She enjoyed her Sunday School classes and WUMCS Circles through the years, and volunteered at the Open Door. She was an avid gardener all of her life and was a member of the Sedalia Garden group through its most active years. At 92 she was still tending her vegetable garden and flower beds. She worked for Lehmer Photograph Studio, retiring in 1962. She had lived in Sedalia since 1944, moving to Versailles in 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Chris L. Shy of Medina, Ohio, and James L. Shy of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; a daughter, Sibyl Ruffing of Melbourne Beach, Florida; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Avis Neitzert, Mary Hunter and Hazel Peterson; and two brothers, Edward Hill and Lynn Hill.
