Mr. Bowman was a member of Hughesville Baptist Church. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation in 1988, after 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, drawing pictures, watching boxing, being outdoors, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and his Yorkie, Pebbles. He truly loved his wife. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard E. Bowman, and his wife, Angie, of Green Ridge; two daughters, Shirley Mailloux, and her husband, Mike, of Bloomington, IL, and Tammy Capps, and her husband, Brandon, of Sedalia; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Denny, Clarissa Denny, Michael Bowman, Zachary Bowman, Joey Mailloux, Dustin Mailloux, Benjy Mailloux, William Capps, Ana Capps and Cody Bergman; a great granddaughter, Shaylen Denny; three brothers, Virgil Bowman, of Lowry City, Charles Bowman, of Purdy, and Bobby Bowman, of Odessa; and a sister, Betty Crawford, of Eldorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Martha Lowrey, Maudie Smith, Dorothy Hymer, Suzanne Crawford and JoAnn Brewer; and three brothers, Ben Bowman, Jim Bowman and Tom Bowman.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Conard officiating.
Casket bearers will be Donnie Thompson, Bobby Vansel, Charles Garrett, Wilber Quinlan, Jim Privett and Leroy Keele.
Honorary bearers will be grandsons.
Burial will be in High Point Cemetery near Hughesville, with military honors by VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Richard Lee Bowman, 81, of Hughesville, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri, a son of Benjamin H. and Susie G. Huckstep Bowman. On Dec. 28, 1955, in Sedalia, he was married to Betty McNulty, who survives of the home.
