George Ralph Brown, 89, of Sedalia, died Monday, October 27, 2003, at the Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born September 1, 1914, in Green Ridge, son of Emmett R. and Alice Hughes Brown.  On October 2, 1944, in Sedalia, he married Geraldine O. Freeman,

who survives of the home.

Mr. Brown was a member of Christ-Trinity Lutheran Church.  He had worked at the Missouri Pacific Railroad Shops and MFA Exchange.  He was a United States Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a 1933 graduate of Green Ridge High School.  He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and liked camping, fishing, traveling and woodworking.  He also enjoyed visiting with friends and playing FreeCell on his computer. 

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Brown, of the home; a son, J. Doug Brown, of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Mary Jo Banks, of Phenix City, Alabama; and a sister, Ruth Edwards, of Sedalia.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Williams and Eva Johnson; two grandsons, Coleman and Marcus Banks; and a son-in-law, Ralph Banks.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Christ-Trinity Lutheran Church, with Dr. Phillip Hornbostel officiating. 

Pallbearers will be Sam Young, George Whitman, Danny Weller, Herb Houston, Glenn Ewing, Jim Gooshen, Ray Williams and Wayne Campbell. 

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.  Friends may also sign the guest register online at www.heckart-gillespie.com.     

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home, Christ-Trinity Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
