Bazil Ulysess Bruce, 89, formerly of Sedalia, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at Truman Medical Center Lakewood in Lee's Summitt.
He was born August 2, 1914, in Henley, Missouri, son of Charles N. and Ada Sinden Bruce. On May 17, 1951, he married Opal L. McCool, who died November 30, 2000.
Mr. Bruce worked for Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. He also worked for Bothwell Regional Health Center for ten years. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Connie Talley of Lee's Summitt, and Carol Stephens of Gladstone; two great grandsons, Jayson R. Moore of Lee's Summit, and Josh Stephens of Gladstone; two great granddaughters, Karen L. Smith of Lee's Summitt, and Angie Stephens of Gladstone; and a great great granddaughter, Kyleigh Shéa Smith. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Jean Bennett; a son, J.P. Cook; four brothers, William E. Bruce, Robert F. Bruce, Carl Bruce and Everett Bruce; and a sister, Marie Bishop.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27 at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Campbell officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jack Smith, Marion Schmidt, Stan Inman, Ab Abney, Elvis Durrill and Ralph Thomas.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
