Clayton Fowler Callis, 81, of St. Louis, formerly of Pettis County, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born September 25, 1923, in Sedalia, son of Edward and Mary Fowler Callis. On April 4, 1949, he married Sara Steele, who died June 30, 1991.
Mr. Callis was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, Missouri. He was the manager of research in the inorganic chemicals division of Monsanto Chemical Company. He moved from the Pettis County area to live in the St. Louis County area in 1957.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Roman, and her husband, John, of St. Louis, and Judy Gasser Callis, and her husband, Chuck, of Davis, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Jeff, Zach, Reta and Max.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Hughesville High Point Cemetery, with Dr. Marianne Inman officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Roman, Chuck Gasser, Jeff Roman and Zach Roman.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday at Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Callis Fund for Excellence in the Sciences at Central Methodist University in Fayette, American Chemical Society, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
