Mr. Carpenter was a lifetime member of the NRA and a former member of the Elk’s and Moose lodges. His family relocated to Sedalia from Cincinnati in 1974 and he always considered this his home. Though diagnosed with cardiomyopathy some 15 years ago he tried to live life to its fullest despite his declining health. Tom loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time at Ray’s Auto Sales.
He worked at the Sedalia Democrat for 15 years, then at Sedalia News-Journal, and at Duke Manufacturing until his health failed.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Carpenter, of the home; two daughters, Tisha Carpenter and Tara Carpenter, both of the home; a brother, Rick Carpenter, of Des Moines, Ia.; and his mother, Jessie Barber, of Sedalia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Jean Carpenter; a brother, Charles E. Carpenter; and his step father, Byron Barber.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Swearingen officiating.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Holbert, Ronnie Dews, Bruce Holbert, Ray Vogel, Greg Melton and Russell Petree.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Beach, Bruce McAllister, Tom Pabst and Jeremy Stewart.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.
Robert Thomas "Tommy" Carpenter, 42, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
He was born September 23, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of Jessie Carpenter Barber. On March 14, 1981, in Sedalia, he married Kathy Riesland, who survives of the home.
