Melvin Richard Carwile, 65, of Deepwater, Missouri, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born June 17, 1937, in Linn, Missouri, son of Chester and Alice Wright Carwile. On October 14, 1966, in Smithton, he married Nora K. Erfurth, who died December 2, 1981.
Mr. Carwile was of the Baptist faith. He was a former Mason, Shriner and Scottish Rite Mason. He was an honorary member of the American Legion Post #642. He enjoyed working the VFW turkey shoots on Sundays, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and working in the yard. He worked as a clerk at the Sedalia Post Office and retired after 31 and half years of service. He lived most of his life in Sedalia.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Carwile and Jamie Carwile, both of Sedalia; four grandchildren; and his companion, Verna Burns of Deepwater, Missouri. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Carwile; two brothers, Bud and Kenny Carwile; and a sister, Margie Carwile.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2003 at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Johnnie Medlock officiating.
Pallbearers will be Trace Carpenter, Richard Carwile, Roger Vieth, Ray Huddleston, Jim Faulconer and Eddie Lyles.
Honorary bearers will be Robert Turpen, Philip Roberts, Harvey White, Darrell Cornwell, Jerry Norton, Paul Huddleston, Corky Estes, Ervin Shull, Vince Kowalski, Charlie Brandkamp, Paul Johnson.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
