Dellas Ruth Cook, 95, of Sedalia, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born Sept. 19, 1912, in Venita, Okla., a daughter of William L. and Goldie Mae Perry Meeks. She was married to Charles Haskell Cook, who died in 1974.
Mrs. Cook moved from Independence to Sedalia in 1945. She was a homemaker
and did volunteer work for church, Meals-on-Wheels and schools. She was most proud of being Mark Twain School parent-teacher association president. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for more than fifty years. She was also a member of Deborah Circle, Sedalia Garden Club, Republican Women’s Club and National Letter Carriers Auxiliary No. 106. She was known for the kindness she offered to neighbors or friends needing a ride to the doctor or other needs. Dellas was proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage and attended many pow-wows.
Surviving are a daughter, Melinda Stansbury, of Sedalia; a son, William Cook, and his wife, Emma Jane, of Prairie Village, Kan.; two grandchildren, Chris Stansbury and Kelly Burlingame; four great grandchildren, Peyton, Jake, T.J. and Holly; and two nieces, Janice Gifford and Karen Wells.
She was also predeceased by three sisters, Pauline Russell, Louise Creager and Billie Bee Adams.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
Pallbearers will be Chris Stansbury, Mikel Burlingame, Ron Jennings, Bob Hartley,
David Esser and Jerry Laudenberger.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral
home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Wesley United
Methodist Church.
