Mrs. Copas grew up in the Tipton and Boonville areas. She worked as a
doctor’s receptionist and, after marriage, worked at Lamy’s for many years before
operating and owning Ruth’s Ceramic Shop. She was very skilled in needlework, and
enjoyed reading, playing cards and games, fishing and being outdoors. She was a very
fun-loving person who cared about others.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith A. Gant and Sandra L. Larson, and her husband, Mike, all of Sedalia; two grandchildren, John Billings and Sheri Kemp, both of Sedalia; four great grandchildren; and several nieces. She was predeceased by a sister; three brothers; and three nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Allcorn officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Billings, Phil Kemp and Mike Larson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Bothwell Hospice.
Ruth Virginia Copas, 78, of Sedalia, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at her home.
She was born March 19, 1928, in Tipton, a daughter of Aubrey Fred and Minnie Catherine Custer Burriss. On Dec. 11, 1943, in Boonville, she was married to William Howard Copas, who died April 14, 1998.
