Edward F. Broyles, 86, of Smithton, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp.

He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Bunker, Missouri, a son of James W. and Mary A. Smith Broyles. On Aug. 20, 1938, in Ironton, Missouri, he was married to Mabel
Kathleen Broyles, who died June 27, 2007.

Mr. Broyles was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. He worked as a mortician and leadminer. He was an avid trout fisherman. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a son, Edward F. Broyles, Jr., and his wife, Paulena, of Smithton; two sisters, Irene Bedwell and Maxine Blackwell; two granddaughters, Sarah E. Rea and Jennifer J. Peacock; two step grandchildren, Paula DeBates and Duane Frerking; four great grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by three brothers, James, Alvie and Bill; and two sisters, Mae Skouby and Thelma Flynn.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Cale Magruder and the Rev. Ed Broyles officiating.

Pallbearers will be Forrest Allen, Gene Anderson, Paul Anderson, Bill Jobe, Ron Jobe and Duane Schroder.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem, Missouri. The local American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside.
