Gerry Glen Buchanan, 78, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009, at his home.
He was born October 27, 1930, in Green Ridge, a son of Joseph Virgil and Beth Guist Buchanan. On September 21, 1991, he married Isabelle Jane Donahoe Bell, who survives of the home.
Mr. Buchanan retired from Pittsburgh Corning after 42 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1494, Local 1004 Flint Glass Workers, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2591. He attended Sacred Heart Church and was a Red Cross volunteer at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed camping, dancing and traveling.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Chris Buchanan, and his wife, Sharon, and Steve Buchanan, and his wife, Dani; a daughter, Penny Clapper, and her husband, David, all of Colorado Springs, CO; a stepson, Bill Bell, of Sedalia; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Starke, and her husband, Gary, of Columbia, and Barbara Harrington, and her husband, Dale, of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Eddie Buchanan, of Green Ridge; two sisters, Helen Sanders, of Sedalia, and Daisy Dean Ballew, of Marshfield; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, with Father Linus Evers officiating.
Casket bearers will be Wayne Kentch, Hugh Schlessman, Tony Davis, Gary Starke, Norman Mosier, and Mike Close.
Honorary bearers will be Mr. & Mrs. James DeMotte, John Schmidt, David Clapper, Shannon Buchanan, Dustin Buchanan, Cody Buchanan, Ricky Buchanan, and Bill Bell.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors by VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heckart Funeral Home, where a prayer service led by Deacon Jerry Connery will be held at 7 p.m.
