George was Baptized as a baby at the Smithton United Methodist Church, later making his profession of faith and becoming a member of the church.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army in World War II and was stationed on Okinawa.  He is a member of Sedalia VFW Post #2591.

George attended 12 years at Smithton School Where he played Basketball all four years and was active in dramatics and music.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in June of 1950 from the University of Missouri, Columbia.  President Harry S. Truman gave the graduating address at the football stadium, because of the class being so large.

He was a farmer all his life, having worked briefly for the ASCS as a grain inspector and for the Gant Lumber yard in Otterville.   George was active in 4-H in his youth, raising Shropshire  Sheep which he exhibited at the Missouri State Fair each year.  In his younger days he enjoyed square dancing.

George is survived by a sister, Norma Byrd Woolery and her husband Nile of Sedalia; three cousins Marian Demand, Mary Rundlett and Alice Fairfax all of Sedalia. 

He was predeceased by both of his parents.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heckart Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Page officiating.

Casket bearers will be H.H. Luetjen, Emmett Fairfax, Otis Thomas, Dale Monsees, Warren Anderson and Gene Bremer.

Honorary Bearers will be Jane and Herman Meisenheimer, Patty Wagenknecht, Tom and Jean McFail, and the Smithton class of 1943.

Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Smithton United Methodist Church or the Smithton Cemetery.

George Morrison Demand, 84, of Smithton, died Sunday morning, September 6, 2009 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg following a stroke two weeks prior.  He was born August 10, 1925 at Smithton, the son of Orville R. And Hazel Morrison Demand.  George married Edna Williams on May 19, 1963 in Oklahoma, and was married for 45 years before she predeceased him on August 24, 2008.
