James Darrell Girten, 70, of Sedalia, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
He was born July 20, 1937, in Sturgis, Ky., a son of John and Henrietta Smith Girten. On April 11, 1958, in Sedalia, he was married to Carol Jackson, who survives of the home.
Mr. Girten enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, Westerns and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a member of Emmett Avenue Baptist Church. He was an Air Force veteran. He retired in 2000.
Also surviving are a son, Christopher Girten, and his wife, Stephanie, of Sedalia; a daughter, Connie Volkmer, and her husband, Charles, of Sedalia; five grandchildren, Amanda Hayes, Nova Girten, Sabrina Fields, Adam Hayes and Garret Fields.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy May officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 will conduct military honors at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
