Ernest D. Gray, 86, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born October 9, 1918, son of Leslie Franklin and Sarah Reid Gray. On January 16, 1940, in Sedalia, he married Wynona Simmons, who survives of the home.
Mr. Gray was a member of Hughesville Baptist Church, where he was a trustee. He drove a school bus. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Gray also worked at Pittsburgh-Corning and Town and Country Shoe Factory. He was a farmer, raising livestock and row crops. He had lived in the Hughesville area all of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Wynona Gray, of the home; a son Ramey Dale Gray, and his wife, Lois, of Hughesville; six grandchildren, Rodney Gray, Teressa Gray, Bobby Gray, Leslie Gray, Michael Gray and Steven Gray; fourteen great grandchildren and a great great grandson. He was predeceased by two sons, Ernest Dale Gray and Gaylen Dean Gray; three brothers, John Gray, Chester Gray and Clarence Gray; and three sisters, Mary Mullins, Ruth Phillips and Irene Mullins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Chapman and the Rev. Carl Gravatt officiating.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Gray, Bobby Gray, Leslie Gray, Michael Gray, Steven Gray and Lloyd Shireman. Honorary bearers will be Robert and Edith Knight, Gene Scotten, Wayne and Vi McMullin, Pat Shireman, Ken and Sydney Nolan.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon until 5 p.m. Thursday and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Children’s Therapy Center.
