Gary Lee Griffin, 73, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Pettis County, a son of Charles Robert and Sylvia Baugh Griffin. On June 14, 1952, in Smithton, he was married to Lois Hilderband, who survives of the home.
Mr. Griffin was a member of Smithton United Methodist Church, where he
was a member of the choir for 57 years. He also attended the Smithton Men’s
Fellowship, which he started. He formerly served as the mayor of Smithton. He
enjoyed reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gary worked in cost accounting at Pittsburg Corning for 40 years, retiring in 1996.
Also surviving are three sons, Kelly Griffin, and his wife, Joann, of St. Paul, Minn., David Griffin, and his wife, Becky, of Otterville, and James Griffin, and his wife, Debra, of Sedalia; a daughter, Dawn Cunningham, and her husband, Rick, of
Hughesville; a daughter-in-law, Karen McCollum, of Haskell, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert; and a grandson, Drew.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jason Veale officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Moore, Al Close, Jim Waldo, Mac Muschany, Jess
Hamilton and Donnie Sawford.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Smithton United Methodist Church choir.
