Elroy Emil Grupe, 82, of Smithton, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

He was born May 9, 1922, in Florence, a son of George Edwin and Anna Sophia Schroeder Grupe. On June 7, 1947, in Sedalia, he was married to Dorothy Jean Meyer,
who survives of the home.

Mr. Grupe was a carpenter for 20 years. He was also a cattle and grain farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved his family. He was a lifelong resident of the
Smithton community. He was a member of Smithton United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Warrensburg. He was a corporal of the U.S. Army, Company I, 104th Timberwolf Division, during World War II.

Also surviving are two sons, David Grupe, and his wife, Sharon, of Smithton, and Danny Grupe, of Sedalia; two grandsons, Aaron Grupe and Brad Grupe; three great
grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Grupe, of Stover, and Lawrence Grupe, of Sedalia; and two sisters, Eileen Rasa, of Florence, and Margaret Ehlers, of Cole Camp.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Lendon J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery, with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 conducting military honors at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Brad Grupe, Aaron Grupe, Roy Rasa, Ray Rasa, Cletus Tagtmeyer and Nick Gerke. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Davis, John Wagenknecht, Tom & Rosalee Smith, Clyde & Bea Jobson, Elwood & Kathleen Payne, Evelyn Templemire, Maurine Bluhm and Beatrice Baughman.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Elroy Grupe Scholarship
Fund, in care of the funeral home.
