Joel was of the Mormon religion. He worked in maintenance at Tyson Foods. He enjoyed
golfing, fishing, boxing, tennis and working out at the gym. He was a United States Navy veteran and had lived in Sedalia since 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Hammer, of the home; a son, Elisha Hammer, of
Warrensburg; a daughter, Mia Hammer, of Sedalia; his mother, Vicki Hammer, of Warrensburg; three brothers, Matt Hammer, of Sedalia, John Hammer, of Texas and Michael Hammer, of Texas;and a sister, Sara Hammer, of Sedalia.
He predeceased by his father, Lloyd M. Hammer; his maternal grandparents and his paternalgrandparents.
Funeral services will held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2008, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Don Carr, Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers will be Matt Hammer, John Hammer, Michael Hammer, Charles Smith, James Aultman and Brad Gillespie.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 will conduct full military honors at the graveside.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the families choice in care of the funeral home.
Joel Allen Hammer, 29, of Sedalia, died Sunday, September 21, 2008, as a result of an automobile accident west of Sedalia on US Highway 50.
He was born August 15, 1979, in Tucson, AZ, a son of Lloyd Michael and Vicki Lee Aultman Hammer. On September 13, 2007, he married Laura Estrada, who survives of the home.
