Mr. Hartt was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was enlisted in July 1940,
in the 689th Field Artillery Battalion. He fought in battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Later he served in communications in the 18th Field Artillery Battalion. He was awarded a bronze star medal, meritorious service medal, Army commendation medal, Army good conduct medal, American defense service medal, American campaign medal, Europe-Africa-Middle East medal, World War II victory medal, World War II occupation medal and a national defense service medal. He retired from the Army on October 1, 1971, after 31 years and eight months of honorable service. After retiring, he farmed livestock until 1980.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591, Uniform Services Association and Disabled American Veterans. He earned an associate’s degree in farm
management and an associate’s degree in building materials, both from State Fair
Community College. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Baptist.

Also surviving are a son, Aaron Charles Hartt, of Sedalia; a grandson, Oran Keyth
Hartt Jr., of Fristoe; and two step grandsons, Robert Jefferies and David Wayne Jefferies. He was predeceased by a son, Oran Keyth Hartt Sr.; three brothers, Clarence
Vernon Hartt, Billy Joe Hartt and Bobby Jack Hartt; and a sister, Vera Mae Oak.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crown Hill Cemetery, with the Rev.
Bob Wasson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Leonard Wood honor guard. Pallbearers will be members of the Fort Leonard Wood honor guard.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the
funeral home. The family suggests contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Claude Melvin Hartt, 82, of Sedalia, died Friday, May 19, 2006, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born May 11, 1924, in Richland, Tillman County, Okla., a son of Charles Walter and Ella Purdy Hartt. On Dec. 13, 1941, in Altus, Okla., he was married to Movaline Woolley, who survives of the home.
