Raymond F. "Ray" Hendricks, 91, of Sedalia, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, at Fair View Nursing Home.
He was born April 30, 1912, near Brazito, Missouri, son of Joseph F. and Sudie F. Engelbrecht Hendricks. On November 7, 1936, in Carthage, Missouri, he married Eula Autry, who died January 19, 1996.
Mr. Hendricks was a member of First Christian Church for
over 50 years. He was among the founders of Boy Scout Troop 66 of First Christian Church. He received the Silver Beaver award for his contributions to scouting. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the International Typographical Union for over 50 years. He was a member of Sedalia Chapter 57 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron for more than one term. He also was a member of York Rite. He served on the Sedalia City Council from 1976 to 1979 and the city Planning and Zoning Commission from 1971 to 1976. He was active in the Democrat Party and was one of the founders of the Democrat Breakfast Club.
He was educated in Jefferson City and Springfield. He entered the printing trade as a young boy carrying newspapers in Jefferson City and Springfield. He worked as an apprentice at the Springfield News Leader and was employed by "Full Cry" magazine in Sedalia at the time of his retirement.
He enjoyed helping others through community service and he loved animals.
Survivors include a son, Larry J. Hendricks, of Columbia; a daughter, Arlene Furnell, of Sedalia; two grandsons; one granddaughter; three great grandsons; two great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sue Wollard; two brothers, Warren Hendricks and Earl Hendricks; and a sister, Florence J. Hendricks.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Russell Willoughby officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Moore, Dennis Miller, Donald Steele, Ward Wollard, Clell Furnell and Leonard Kinsey.
Burial will be in Gott Cemetery, in Ulman, Missouri.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heckart/Gillespie Funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or the Mid Missouri Humane Society.
