Alvin Charles Heynen, 89, of Marshall, formerly of Sedalia, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, at his sister’s home in Marshall.
He was born June 19, 1915, in Sedalia, son of Clyde and Margaret Heuchan Heynen. On October 21, 1944, in Sedalia, he was married to Mary Frances Walker, who died July 7, 1994.
Mr. Heynen owned and operated Heynen Monument Company with his father
and grandfather. He hand carved stones in every cemetery in the surrounding area. He was baptized in 1944 in Broadway Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. He served faithfully as deacon, elder, head usher, on the worship committee. He was a member of the Mariners, a Sunday evening club of Presbyterian members. He was recognized for fifty years of membership on December 18, 1994.
He enjoyed playing golf at the Sedalia Country Club, where he was a member. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Knife and Fork Club, the Kiwanis Club, and was an excellent bridge player.
Survivors include a sister, Mildred Smith, of Marshall; many nieces and nephews, including Jamie and Michael Ontkean, Clyde and Lynn Smith, Judy and Ron Robinson, Skip and Martha Deady, and Jerry and Diane Faulkner.
He was predeceased by his parents; his step mother, Mildred Neeley Faulkner; and a brother, William Clyde Heynen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Wheeler officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ron Robinson, Jerry Faulkner, Francis “Skip” Deady and Bob Gardner.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Broadway Presbyterian Church or Children’s Therapy Center.
