Mr. May was owner and operator of John’s Café in Otterville for 31 years. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Commander’s Club, the Lion’s Club, and a former member of the American Legion in Otterville. He enjoyed working in flower gardens, and cooking, which he learned from his mother. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Surviving are a sister, Irene Homan, of Kansas City; and a brother, Ernest T. May, of Sedalia.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Smith; and a brother, Robert Truman May.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastor Viola Rhoads officiating.
Casket bearers will be Robert May, Bryan McClain, Nick Smith, Justin May, Johnnie Ehlers and Jerry Page.
Honorary bearers will by Cecil Baggs, Mary D. Sears, Dorothy Youngkamp, C.J. McNulty and John Wagenknecht.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at Heckart Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Diabetes Association or Southern Care Hospice.

John Benjamin May, 82, of Otterville, died Monday night, Feb. 2, 2009, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
He was born April 22, 1926, in Pettis County, a son of Ernest Thomas Sr. and Fay Gorrell May.
