Edwin Paul Kurtz, 86, of Columbia, formerly of Sedalia, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at South Hampton Place in Columbia.
He was born June 16, 1918, in St. Louis, son of Myer and Olga Baumann Kurtz. On February 5, 1959, in St. Louis, he married Lucille W. Melton, who died September 7, 1990. On August 7, 1992, in Sedalia, he married Connie
Ann Bryant, who survives of the home.
Mr. Kurtz was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. After retiring from truck driving, he was an automobile transporter for local car dealerships.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 2591, where he was past district commander and past post commander, American Legion Post 642 and Moose Lodge 1494. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force.
Also surviving are a son, James Edward Kurtz, of Ewing, Tenn.; two daughters, Sandy Rainey, of Wichita, Kan., and Susan Morales, of Springfield; a step son, Chester Myers, of Sedalia; a brother, Joseph Kurtz, of Roanoke, Tex.; two sisters, Irene Vise, of Alton, Ill., and Wanda Oneil, of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Kurtz; a step daughter, Phyllis Sessions; and a grandson, Christopher Rainey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Heckart/ Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Sid Mabry officiating.
Pallbearers will be Charles Woody, Donnie Brownfield, Rick Howell, Scott Morales, Robert Rainey and Randy Rainey. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Alt, Stuart Smith, Dennis Bryant and James Waddell.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at the funeral home.
