Mrs. Lappat was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are a son, Robert F. Lappat, and his wife, Leona C., of Independence; a daughter, Shirley Mae Lappat, of Independence; ten grandchildren, Judy Hedges (Steven), Bobby Lappat (Katrina), Tom Lappat (Gail), Richard Lappat (Ann), Rodney Lappat (Melissa), and Angela Ashford (Todd), all of Independence, Patricia Redman, of Oak Grove, Nancy Silvers (Chuck), of Odessa, Tammy Gillpatrick (Tony), of Camdenton, and Jeffrey Lappat, of Buckner; eighteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; four brothers, George Franklin and Carl Franklin, both of Sedalia, Bill Franklin, of Seattle, Washington, and Gary Franklin, of Sherwood, Arkansas; and two sisters, Helen McFatrich and Betty Hickam, both of Sedalia. She was also predeceased by a brother, Bobby Franklin; and a great grandson, Alec Frank Lappat.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mary Biesemeyer officiating.
Casket bearers will be Robert Lappat, Tom Lappat, Richard Lappat, Rodney Lappat, Jeffrey Lappat and Steven Hedges.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Dorothea Lavergne Lappat, 92, of Independence, formerly of Sedalia, died Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs.
She was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Pettis County, a daughter of Russell George and Edith Mae Van Dyke Franklin. On Sept. 11, 1935, in Sedalia, she was married to Frank George Lappat, who died Nov. 30, 1976.
