Mrs. Lashley was a member of Church of the Open Bible and Bothwell Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for 15 years. She enjoyed cooking for all her kids, was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She worked for Sedalia Schools from 1982 to present, first at Striped College, then at Parkview Elementary and most recently as head cook for Skyline Elementary School. She had also worked at Bothwell Regional Health Center in the Dietary Department for a time.

Survivors include her husband, Carl L. Lashley, of the home; a son, Rick Lashley, and his wife, Cheryl, of Sedalia; four daughters, Carla Humphreys, of Sedalia, Sheri Young, and her husband, Jeff, of Sedalia, Michelle Arnall, of Sedalia, and Nichole Waggoner, and her husband, Shawn, of Sedalia; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Humphreys, Christina Karman, Charity Lashley, Andrew Lashley, Heather Chambers, Dustin Meyer, Amber Miller, Megan Moon, Sieaira Moon, Joshua Shawn Miller and Heidi Waggoner; step
grandchildren, Jessi Young, Jennifer Shoemaker and Jana Young; seven great
grandchildren, Travis Humphreys, Corbin Humphreys, Jacob Karman, Sheldon Karman, Cassandra Karman, Tyla Hardy and Mackenzie Zeiler; and two step great grandchildren, Clayton Hambsch and Madilyn Shoemaker. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Brown, Howard Brown and Gerald Brown; two sisters, Mary Lebeague and Lavone Brown; her parents; and a grandson, Chadrick Moon.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, at
Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Wasson and Wade Norton officiating.

Private burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at a later time.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2006, at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel.  Friends and family may also send condolences online at www.heckart-gillespie.com.

The family suggests contributions to Skyline Elementary Teachers Fund in care of Wade Norton.

Betty Jean Lashley, 71, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. 

She was born February 16, 1934, in Pettis County, Missouri, a daughter of Thomas L. and Almeda Fall Brown. On March 21, 1953, in Sedalia, she married Carl Lewis Lashley, who survives of the home.
