Lorene Lena Smith, 82, of Jefferson City, formerly of Hughesville, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City.
She was born August 16, 1922, in Sedalia, a daughter of Floyd and Louesa
Runge Thomason. On December 29, 1945, in Hughesville, she was married to
Lawson Smith, who survives of the home.
Mrs. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City.
She worked as a cook at Hughesville School and at International Shoe Company in Jefferson City, before retiring. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Surviving are her husband, Lawson Smith, of the home; a son, Terry Smith, and his wife, Diane, of Jefferson City; a daughter, Sharon Gregory, and her husband,
Robert, of Houstonia; a brother, Floyd Thomason, Jr., of Sedalia; three grandchildren, Justin Smith, Paul Smith and Michael Gregory; and six great
grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Thomason.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Dumas officiating.
Pallbearers will be Paul Smith, Justin Smith, Michael Gregory, Mark Thomason, Jim Caldwell and Jerry Smith.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at
Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Bethel United Methodist Church.
