Hazel M. Boatman Mathis, 88, of Sedalia, Missouri, formerly of Texarkana, Ark., died
Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born May 26, 1919, in Waldo, Ark., a daughter of Eli and Louise Ridling West. On April 30, 1935, she was married to Henry Jackson Boatman, who died in 1982. On Sept. 5, 1989, she was married to Charles Mathis, Jr., who died in 1992.
She attended school in Waldo, and worked in various jobs until 1950, when she went to work as the office manager for J.K. Wadley, a prominent oil and lumber businessman in Texarkana. After his death, in 1976, she opened the Brass Lantern, a specialty gift shop. Later, she was department manager of the couture department at Hall’s on the Country Club plaza for two years. After her retirement, she volunteered at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Texarkana. After moving to Sedalia, she attended services at Flat Creek Baptist Church, when her health permitted.
Surviving are a son, Billy Jack Boatman, and his wife, Judy, of Sedalia; two daughters-in-law, Helen Boatman, of Victoria, Texas, and Jacqueline Boatman, of Yukon, Okla.; six grandchildren, Brett Boatman, and his wife, Cindy, Brenda Corbett, and her husband, Keith, all of Sedalia, Jeff Boatman, and his wife, Laura, of Austin, Texas, Caroline Reinhardt, and her husband, Steve, of Houston, Texas, Samantha Boatman and Heather Boatman, of Yukon, Okla.; and seven great grandchildren, Kimberly Tanner, and her husband, Donny, Kari Wright, and her husband, Justin, Bryan Corbett, and his wife, Krista, Jeremy Boatman and Kevin Boatman, all of Sedalia, Jonah Boatman and Claire Boatman, of Austin, Texas; eleven great great grandchildren;
and two additional great great grandchildren expected in 2008. She was also predeceased by two sons, James Oliver Boatman and Joe Dale Boatman; a brother, Robert West; a daughter-in-law, Donna Lee Boatman; and a great great granddaughter, Madison Lee Wright.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Flat Creek Baptist Church in Sedalia, with the Rev. Cale Magruder officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brett Boatman, Jeff Boatman, Keith Corbett, Bryan Corbett, Donny
Tanner and Justin Wright.
Burial will be in Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Friday at Heckart Funeral Home, where the family will
receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.
