Carrie Ellen May, 81, of Sedalia, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at her home.

She was born February 13, 1923, in Otterville, daughter of Norvel Avington and Georgia Mary Neal Cook.  On January 24, 1942, in Sedalia, she was married to Ernest Thomas May, who survives of the home.

Mrs. May was raised in the Smithton, Otterville area and graduated from Smithton School.  She was a homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting, joking with her grandchildren and most things purple.  She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Dennis, of Georgetown; two sons, Robert May, of Smithton, and Ray May, of Sedalia; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Beulah Page, of Otterville; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Carrico, of Utah; and two brothers, Bud Cook, of Smithton, and Ray Cook, of St. Louis.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Carrie May and to share fond memories will be held at 12 noon Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Hopewell Baptist Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
