Lucille graduated from Green Ridge High School in 1933.  She later graduated from Southwest Baptist College at Bolivar in 1935 with an Associate's degree in education. In 1942 she graduated from Central Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education, and then in 1945 Lucille graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary-Carver School in Louisville, Kentucky, with a Masters in Religious Education degree.

She taught in Saline County and Green Ridge School Districts from 1935 to 1943.

In 1945 Lucille went to St. Louis, following Seminary graduation as a Baptist Student Union Director in the colleges and Professional Schools there.  On January 1, 1948, she became the Youth Director at Third Baptist Church in St. Louis.  There she met and married Harris Meacham on September 11, 1953. 

Lucille joined the staff of Christian Civic Foundation of Missouri in 1957, with headquarters in St. Louis, as Secretary to the Executive.  This was a drug, alcohol and tobacco education program in schools and churches of Missouri sponsored by all denominations.  In 1982 she retired and moved back to Green Ridge, later moving to Sedalia.  Upon her retirement she was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in appreciation for 25 years of Christian Ministry to citizens of Missouri, and also was a recipient of the Life Service Award of Southwest Baptist University in recognition of outstanding Christian Service since graduation there in 1935.

Lucille was a member of First Baptist Church of Sedalia, Knife and Fork Club, and Green Ridge Garden Club. Both Lucille's and Harris' primary concern was ministry to single adults.

Surviving are two brothers, J.B. "Jim" Carter, of Green Ridge, and L.H. "Bing" Carter, of Olathe, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on October 8, 1998; and an infant daughter, Melanie; three sisters, Fredonia "Freddie" Carter, Wanda Bess Stacy, and Lucy O'Neill, her twin; and one brother, Homer " Buck" Carter Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Drew Hill officiating.

Casket bearers will be Wes Brockman, Mike Carter, Charles Hardy, Mike Howard, Mike Kuhler and Johnny Meyers.

Burial will be in Green Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Show-Me Christian Youth Home or First Baptist Church.


Lucille M. Meacham, 93, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

She was born October 11, 1915, in Strasburg, MO, at the home of an aunt.  Lucille was the daughter of Homer E. and Bess Carter.  In 1924 she moved to Green Ridge with her family.
