Mr. Meier was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. His passion was work with cars. He owned and operated Plaza Motors, in Independence. Later he worked for Pat O’Connor Chevrolet, and Vogel Used Cars, in Sedalia. He retired in 1980 and had lived in Sedalia most of his life.

Survivors also include a son, Donald Meier and his wife Laura, of Sedalia; a daughter, Carol Hertzler and her husband Dr. Bill, of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren, Jon and Julie Hertzler and Mike and Troy Meier; and three great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Myron E. Meier; two brothers, Roy Meier and Milbert Meier; three sisters, Fern Farris, Adeline O’Connell and Letha Cotter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Clayton officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ray Vogel, Roy Meier, Jr., Harry Rogers, John Meyer, Troy Meier, Jon Hertzler, Bill Gray and Mike Meier.

Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Cole Camp.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Sedalia Senior Center or Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Merlin E. Meier, 90, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Cole Camp.

He was born December 20, 1917, in Cole Camp, a son of August and Mary Harms Meier. On September 5, 1952, in Carrollton, Missouri, he married Billie Burfeind, who survives.
