Georgia Blanche Merriott, 94, of Independence, formerly of Sedalia, died Friday, January 16, 2004 at Carmel Hills Living Center in Independence.
She was born July 29, 1909, in Warsaw, daughter of Edward C. and Clara Ellen Cochran Smith. On April 14, 1930, in Clinton, she was married to Forrest Merriott, who died November 23, 1969.
Mrs. Merriott was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Independence, where she sang in the church choir. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles and loved to read.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Quinn, of East Hampton, New York; a sister, Mildred Gamber, of Kansas City, Misssouri; two granddaughters, Nancy Quinn and Patricia Rohn; and one great granddaughter, Stephanie Rohn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Carr and Lela Havens; and a brother, Glen E. Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Donald Allcorn officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.There will be no family visitation. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.
