Melvin LeRoy Lane, 87, of Sedalia, died Saturday afternoon, January 7, 2006, at
Bothwell Regional Health Center. 

He was born May 11, 1918, in Sedalia, Missouri, son of Norvel Adelbert and
Gertrude Neitzert Lane. On May 29, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, he married Mary Lou Daniel, who died July 23, 2001. 

Mr. Lane was a member of the Camp Branch Baptist Church and, at the time of
his death, had the longest membership of the congregation. He had also attended
Broadway Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, was a 4-H leader in woodworking, and worked in an aircraft factory during World War II. Mr. Lane was a self employed carpenter and painter.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Lane, and his wife, Judi, of Blue Springs;
Glenn Lane, and his wife, Kathie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Ralph Lane, of Clinton, and Shelby Lane, of Buffalo; four sisters, Mary Louise Anderson, of Buffalo, Doris Warren, of Kansas City, Missouri, Grace Leicher, of Sedalia, and Alberta Bock, of Valencia, Calif.; four grandchildren, Andrea Schoenbeck, Kerry Lane, Stephanie Lane and Dustin Lane. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Bopp.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Rob Ayers and the Rev. Dr. Larry Wheeler officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Lane, Jason Schoenbeck, Louis Doerge, David Warren, Lyndon Leicher and George Cobblah.

Burial will be in the South Fork Cemetery in Sweet Springs.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions to Camp Branch Baptist Church, Broadway
Presbyterian Church or South Fork Cemetery Association.
