Thomas Clifford Morgan, 90, of Sedalia, MO, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center. He was born March 4, 1919, near Preston, MO, son of Thomas W. and Odessa Walker Morgan.
Clifford served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936-38, and in the Navy during World War II from 1942-45. He married Elizabeth Jean Nelson at Trinity Methodist Church, in Kansas City, MO, on May 28, 1949. He lived near Parkville, MO, for 30 years. He retired in 1977 after 30 years with General Motors, Fairfax, Kansas City, Kansas.
He was a charter member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church, Platte Woods, MO, but he joined the Warsaw United Methodist Church when he moved to Warsaw in 1979. He lived near Warsaw for 26 years. When he moved to Sedalia in 2005, he joined the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Clifford was past master of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge No. 653 in Warsaw. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 236 AF & AM in Sedalia.
Among his many interests was his membership in both the West Central and the Missouri Archaeology Society. He was a past chairman of the Duran Creek Patrol. He was a charter member and past President of the Damsite Square Dance club, which he helped found. He was a member of UAW No. 31. He led woodworking and geology projects in 4-H. He loved woodworking, making antique furniture reproductions, collecting Indian artifacts, being a rock hound, gardening, and researching and writing about family history.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jean Morgan, of the home; a son, Thomas Dee Morgan, and his wife, M.J. Morgan, of Manhattan, KS; a daughter, Kathryn Louise Marshall, and her husband, Alan D. Marshall, of Sedalia; a grandson, Daniel Christopher Marshall, of Columbia; a granddaughter, Lila Walsh, of Camas, WA; a granddaughter, Kristina McFarland, of Newark, OH; a granddaughter, Shelley McFarland, of Westfield, IN; a granddaughter, Adelle McFarland, of Hagerstown, Maryland; a sister, Evelyn Dillinger, of Jefferson City, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Odessa Mae Lindstrom; and a brother, George Dee Morgan.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Heckart Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fisher Cemetery near Preston.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
