Dr. Myers attended high school in St. Joseph, graduating valedictorian. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. In 1959, he earned a master’s of education degree from University of Colorado-Boulder. In 1976, he earned a doctorate of education degree from University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a teacher and principal in Hannibal for several years, before moving to Sedalia, where he taught math and science at Smith- Cotton High School until 1986. He also taught adult classes at Whiteman Air Force Base.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Rainbow Division. He also served in the Missouri Army National Guard.

Also surviving are two daughters, Christa Herrmann, and her husband, John, of Dallas, Texas, and Dorothea Myers, of Kansas City; a son, Richard Myers, of Moab, Utah; a brother, Earl Myers, of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Christopher Hermann, and his wife, Sharon, of Rochester, New York, Robert Herrmann, and his wife, Jennifer, of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and Amy Varga, and her husband, Dave, of Long Valley, New Jersey; and five great grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Michael, Sydney and Faith.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Myers; and a sister, Catherine Shoots.

Dr. Elmer St. Clair Myers, 81, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Fair View Nursing Home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1924, in St. Joseph, a son of Elmer St. Clair Sr. and Julia Davis Myers. On March 21, 1947, in Vienna, Austria, he was married to Trudis
Wanecek, who survives of the home.
