Thomas H.C. "Peachie" Newton, 62, of Nelson, died Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

He was born July 27, 1941, in Boonville, son of Clarence Irvin and Doris Gensler Newton. On December 8, 1962, in Sweet Springs, he married Phyllis Hartman, who survives of the home.


Mr. Newton was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Nelson. He was a crop and livestock farmer. He loved going to farm auctions and working on old tractors. He had lived in the Pettis County area all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Newton, of the home; two sons, Daniel H. Newton, of Sedalia, and Grant Newton, of the home; a brother, Clarence Newton, of Sedalia; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Josh Allcorn officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Schuber, Billy Grant Pettit, Chris Howard, John Hiller, Kevin Hayes and Wally Jeffries. Honorary bearers will be Billy Thompson, Roger Findley, John Berry and Larry Harvey.

Burial will be in Miller Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.
