Helen Mae Olson, 99, of Sedalia, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born May 22, 1907, in Platte Center, Neb., a daughter of William R. and Grace Fischer Lewis. On Nov. 24, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was married to Walter John Olson, who died March 26, 1991.
Mrs. Olson was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was formerly a leader in the Smelser 4-H Club. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed sewing, making lap robes and 75 quilts. She wrote two books with pictures of her life and family. She enjoyed collecting stamps and buttons, and spending time with her family. During World War I, she made bandages for American Red Cross.
Surviving are three sons, Wendell Olson, and his wife, Myrna, of Concordia, Jerry Olson, of Alma, and Larry Olson, of Warrensburg; five daughters, Lorraine Jackson, and her husband, Price, of Sedalia, Lucille Hartz, of Edmond, Okla., LaDonna Nelson, and her husband, Howard, of Indio, Calif., Alyce Miller, and her husband, David, of Sedalia, and Jackie Butler, and her husband, Leonard, of Sedalia; thirteen grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Wesley Nelson; two daugthers-in-law, Joanie Olson and Janette Olson; and a son-in-law, Leon Hartz.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Debbie Grossardt-Arvelo officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Jackson, Roger Miller, Kent Miller, John Miller, Brian Butler and Scott Olson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carla Young, Linda Christian, Sandy Moore, Carrie Brown, Stephanie Steffensmeier, Libby Palmer, Jill Peluso, Chris Young, Matt Young, Jennifer Jackson, Scott Christian, Leslie Moore, Kyle Moore, Shane Brown, Allison Brown, Kelli Miller, Jami Miller, Kristi Miller, Kevan Miller, Austin Miller, Jill Pulliam, Jacob Steffensmeier, Justin Steffensmeier and Connor Palmer.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Bethel United Methodist Church.
