He was an Army private in World War II, serving from 1944 to 1946, in the 101st
Airborne Division. He served in campaigns in Rhineland and Central Europe, earning
several ribbons and medals. The story of his service to our country was featured in The
Sedalia Democrat the day he passed away.
Surviving are three daughters, Abbie Turner and Sheryl Michael, both of Sedalia, and Lisa Rivers, and her husband, Metus, of Shreveport, La.; three sons, John Dean Petree, of Sedalia, John Petree Jr., and his wife, Lea Ann, of Lee’s Summit, and James Petree, of Sedalia; a brother, Russell Petree, of Sedalia; a sister, Margaret Murry, of Sedalia; 13
grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by eight brothers, Homer, Carl, Leon, Herbert, Orval, Eddie, Walter and James Petree; a two sisters, Bertha Young and Wanda Griffith.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Donald J. Allcorn and the Rev. James Rutledge officiating.
Pallbearers will be Justin Elmer, James Turner, Carl Michael, Brian Michael, Myron Riha and Kelvin Kast. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Petree and Metus Rivers.
Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens, with military honors by Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 2591.

John N. Petree Sr., 79, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at his home.
He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Fortuna, a son of James Henry and Hazel May Chaney Petree.
Mr. Petree was a member of Harvest Time Prayer and Praise Church and Moose Lodge 1494. He was the owner and operator of Petree Construction, which he started in 1968. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
