On March 31, 1972, she married Harold Prater, who survives at the home. Other survivors include one daughter, Jean Ann Donnel (Richard) of Aurora, CO; one son, James Philip Donnel (Susan), Hampton, VA; one brother, Robert Hiltenburg (Judy) of Sedalia, MO; sister, Virginia Ross (William) of Stronghurst, IL; sister, Diana Martinez of Kansas City, MO; and two grandchildren. She also has three nieces, two nephews, one great-niece, and six great-nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents, and one nephew.
Mrs. Prater was raised in the United Methodist Church, Smithton, and is a graduate of Smithton High School and Friends University in Wichita, KS. She worked for years for AT&T, retiring as an engineering clerk, and did tax preparation for H & R Block.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Wayne and Pastor Viola Rhoads officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be Macy Simpson, Byran Simpson, William Ross, Daniel Kirchhoff, Lyman Ross and Shawn Moss.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Gloria I. Prater, 73, of Watkins, CO, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Aurora South Medical Center, Aurora, CO. She was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence J. and Clara W.S. Bardwell Hiltenburg. In 1958, she married Philip Donnel; they divorced.
