Mr. Pummill was a member of Longwood Presbyterian Church and served on the Longwood School Board. He helped organize Pettis County Volunteer Fire Department in 1976 where he was the Captain of Station #3 for 15 years. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and coached little league and pony league baseball. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War from 1951 - 1953. Pete liked to tinker with old motors and loved playing pitch with his family. He has lived in Pettis County all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home; two sons, Robin Pummill and his wife Janice, of Houstonia and Kent Pummill and his wife Ellena, of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Pam Cornine and her husband Rick, of Longwood and Kelly Harrison and her husband Brian, of Columbia; a brother, Carl Pummill, of Sedalia and a sister Melvie Mosier, of Springfield; eight grandchildren Miranda White, Patrick Cornine, Jessica Kreisel, Alex Harrison, Zach Harrison, Tyler Harrison, Collin Pummill and Cade Pummill; and three great grandchildren, Blaine Kreisel, Bevin Kreisel and Austynn White.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Alfred, J.M.,  Junior, and  Dewey; two sisters, Loueva Winfrey and Margaret Hazel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Heckart Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Harper officiating.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Cornine, Joe White, Russell Kreisel, Zach Harrison, Collin Pummill and Eric Cornine.

Burial will be in Miller’s Chapel Cemetery. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2591 will conduct full military honors at the graveside.

Robert Eugene “Pete” Pummill, 77, of Marshall, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born June 14, 1930, a son of Finis E. and Melvie Scott Pummill. On July 6, 1951 in Longwood, he married Helen Alexander, who survives of the home.
