Mr. Alexander was a member of Parkview Christian Church, a past member of the Boonville Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an Air Force Korean veteran and in 2004 was Missouri Donor of the Year of the Korean War Veterans National Museum and Library. He received the good conduct medal and national defense service medal. Mr. Alexander was a supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring in 1986 after 39 years of service. He was a past secretary-treasurer of the Communications Workers of America in Sedalia Local 6341, past president of the Telephone Pioneers, and present member of C.W.A. retired member chapter. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and worked the Senior Citizen’s Center at the Missouri State Fair. Roy was a past vice-president of the Landlord’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the Wheel-In. In his younger years, he enjoyed going to all of his kids’ sporting events. He loved spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Roy C. Alexander and Mark Christopher Alexander, both of Sedalia; a daughter, Kimberly Wells, and her husband, Tim, of Sedalia; four step-daughters, Lisa Moon, and her husband, Pat, Dena Parkhurst, Becky McGinnis, and her husband, Greg, all of Sedalia, and Robyn Pummill, of Columbia; 19 grandchildren, Joey, Jacob, Tessa, Ethan, Caitlin, Austin, Christopher, Leigha, Glenn, Lindsey, Erin, Nick, Wendy, Mitchell, Bailey, Katy, Jack, Madelyn and Morgan; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Alexander, of Leavenworth, Kan.; and two sisters, Lucille Johns, of San Diego, Calif., and Betty Anderson, of Sedalia.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, Children’s Therapy
Center or American Heart Association.
Roy Lewis Alexander, 77, of Sedalia, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at his home.
He was born September 1, 1929, in California, Missouri, a son of Roy Edward and Mary Elizabeth Tevis Alexander. On August 1, 1954, in Sedalia, he married Shirley Joann Davidson, who survives in Sedalia. On November 19, 1986, in Las Vegas, he married Shirley A. Pohl Pummill, who survives of the home.
