Richard Clay Jones, 59, of Kansas City, formerly of Sedalia, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at his home.
He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Sedalia, a son of Philip Clay and Edith Ardelle Warren
Jones. In 1968, he married Charlotte Heembrock, who survives of Independence. On Aug. 31, 1985, in Little Rock, Ark., he married Anne Hays Jones, who survives of Kansas City.
Dr. Jones attended North Cross United Methodist Church of Kansas City. He loved
animals and enjoyed outdoor activities. He was a marksman and loved his guns.
He was a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed in Spain during the Vietnam
War as a Nuclear Weapons Safety Officer.
Dr. Jones was an educated man, receiving his PhD in guidance and counseling. He
taught in the Sedalia school district in the 1960's. He was a professor at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, Grant Administrator at Central Missouri State University in
Warrensburg, and Associate Dean at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyoming. He retired in 2004, as a Planning Specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Jones, of Kansas City; several cousins, aunts and uncles, including Helen Mason, Bob Mason, Mark Mason and Van Jones, all of Sedalia.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with
the Rev. Dr. Larry Wheeler officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 will conduct military honors at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mid-Missouri Humane Society-Sedalia, Wayside-WAIFS of Kansas City (animal rescue organization) or the Children’s Therapy Center.
