Mr. Ray was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed working with wood and was a builder most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1940-1945.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Vicki Bock, of Evergreen, CO, Becki McEver, and her husband, Mike, of Dallas, TX, and Donna Compton, and her husband, Dan, of Overland Park, KS; a son, David Ray, and his wife, Sharon, of Sedalia; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sylvia Harding.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Heckart Funeral Home, with Father Bill Miller officiating.

Casket bearers will be Ben Bock, Chad McEver, Brandon Ray, Christian Hunt, Dan Compton, Mike McEver, Chris Anderson, Adam McKelvey, and Nick Reyes.

Honorary bearers will be Dr. Robert Frederickson, Dick Dittmer, and Gary Harris.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 2591.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or the Parkinson's Foundation.

Russell L. Ray, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday morning, July 15, 2009, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born April 23, 1922, in Green Ridge, the son of Roy and Clara Stevens Ray. On June 19, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Frankenstein, MO, he was married to Legora Jaeger, who survives of the home.
