Bennie Herbert Rumsey, 98, of Smithton, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born February 2, 1911, in Pettis County, a son of John Ryland and Minnie Josephine Raus Rumsey. On December 2, 1933, in Salem, Mo, he married Lois Irene Leonard who preceded him in death on July 30, 2004.
Mr. Rumsey attended Bothwell Grade School and Smith-Cotton High School. From 1932 to 1934 he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps at Indian Trails Park in the Salem vicinity. He owned and operated Stylebrook Cleaners. Bennie was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bill Rumsey(AlBeth) of Higginsville , three grandchildren, David(Susan) Rumsey, Timothy (Paula) Rumsey, Daniel (Stacey) Rumsey, eight great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren and a sister, Sydney Eakin. He was predeceased by a brother, Louis and four sisters, Anna Rubenstein, Lucille Mayre and Gertrude Christy.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Heckart Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Hankins officiating. Casket bearers will be David Rumsey, Timothy Rumsey, Daniel Rumsey, Jerry Sadler, Chris Bulifant and Jim Talbert.
Burial will be in Mt. Herman Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 TO 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Heckart Funeral Home.
