Betty Lou Scotten, 73, of Hughesville, died Saturday evening, February 19, 2005, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, surrounded by her family.
She was born October 15, 1931, in Sedalia, daughter of Samuel and Jessie Elizabeth Ryan Arnett. On January 21, 1951, in Sedalia, she married Eugene Scotten, who survives of the home.
Mrs. Scotten was a 1949 graduate of the Green Ridge High School, where she was
valedictorian. After her graduation she was employed in Sedalia by Western Adjustment
Company and Prudential Insurance Company, and retired from Shelter Insurance with 25
years of service in 1995.
She and her husband moved to their farm in the Hughesville area in 1973 where she
transferred her church membership to Bethel Methodist Church from Green Ridge
Presbyterian Church. She was active in the church and also the Green Ridge Girl Scout
Troop. Presently she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bothwell Regional
Health Center Auxiliary, Sorosis, Osage Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and
Warrensburg Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star and Homemakers Club. After retirement
she enjoyed traveling, especially the trip to New York before 9-11 and other trips to England
where her Ryan ancestors originated. She enjoyed her family and her friends.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Scotten, of the home; a daughter, Sharon Johnson, and her husband, Steve, of Warsaw; two brothers, Donald Arnett, of Houstonia and
Vernon Arnett, of Stockton; two grandchildren, Stacey Mosher and Stephen Johnson; and
two great grandchildren, Kaelin and Lucas Mosher.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roy Arnett, Randy Scotten, John Robert Nichols, Dennis Wilson,
Mike Knaus and Wendell Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary and Bob McCarty, Mary Lu Gorrell, Ruth Ann and Mac Muschany, Betty and Chub Purchase, Janet Green, Barbara Scotten, Mary Arnett, Ray Arnett, Gwen and Morris Hinken.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Heckart/Gillespie
Colonial Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Children’s Therapy Center or First
United Methodist Church Celebration Center.
