Edith Helen Shepherd, 92, of Osage Beach, formerly of Sedalia and Overland Park, Kansas, completed
life's journey Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the Lake Ozark Retirement Center in Osage Beach.
She was born October 15, 1910, in Sedalia, daughter of James Albert and Mary Louisa Dow DeJarnette.
On May 4, 1933, in Lexington, Missouri, she married Lester Eugene "Gene" Shepherd, who died February 15, 1997.
Mrs. Shepherd taught elementary Social Studies in the Sedalia Public Schools for 28 years and was an
inspiration to her three sons who also pursued careers in education.
Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, where she was a member of United
Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and a Central Missouri State University alumnus. 
Mrs. Shepherd lived most of her life in Sedalia, until moving to the Atriums in Overland Park, Kansas
following the death of her husband. She resided at the Lake Ozark Retirement Center this past year. 
Survivors include three sons, James Robert Shepherd and wife Kathleen of Sunrise Beach, Missouri;
Larry Eugene Shepherd and wife Kay, and Kenneth DeJarnette Shepherd and wife Linda, all of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jefferson Dow DeJarnette; and a sister, Alice Louisa Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel with the
Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Williams, Matthew Shepherd, Todd Shepherd, Jason Shepherd, Tad Shepherd and Rod Woerther. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Curran.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.
