Clayta Lorain Shoe, 98, of Columbia, formerly of Sedalia, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at South Hampton Place in Columbia.
She was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Clinton, a daughter of Lyman Eugene and Nellie Lorain Raney Keyes. On Jan. 26, 1930, in Clinton, she was married to Carl D. Shoe, who died June 11, 1995.
Mrs. Shoe was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the quilting group. She was also a member of the Garden Club. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling and reading.
Surviving are a son, Forest W. Shoe, and his wife, Betty, of Columbia; three daughters, Marilyn Ward, and her husband, Herschel, of Prairie Village, Kan., Doris Gilliland, of Joplin, and Margaret “Maggie” Shoe, of Columbia; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 13 great great grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by a son, Lawrence Eugene Shoe; a daughter, Shirley J. McClary; and a great granddaughter, Ashley Smith.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Youkey officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Carl Ward, Larry Ward, Larry Wayne Shoe, Ryan Keele, Eddie Johnson and George Stevens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ross Herman, Troy Ives, Dale Moon, Wynne Jennings and Allen Bess.
Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
