He was a Navy veteran of World War II in the Pacific War and saw action while serving on the LSM 396. His duty was landing American troops onto various island invasions including the infamous Okinawa and Iwo Jima landings. A daily reminder of his proud service was a naval anchor tatooeed on his left forearm bearing his nickname "Lefty." Returning from the war, he met and married Barbara in Kansas City, Mo. Clarence worked in the grocery business throughout his life in Kansas City, Moberly, Sedalia, and in the Carolinas until retirement. In Sedalia, he was the manager of the Kroger store on East Broadway and later each of the Consumer’s Market stores. After retirement, he enjoyed working in the yard with Barbara, watching the Chicago Cubs ballgames on TV, and visiting with neighbors. His favorite pastimes included enjoying his grandkids, trading for better riding lawnmowers, and visits to the barber shop.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen Kidwell, and her husband, Randy, of Springfield, Mo., Susan Harrelson, and her husband, Marvin, of Sedalia, and Tina Vansell, and her husband, Jim, of Sedalia; three sons, Craig Silvey, and his wife, Marsha, Randy Silvey, and his wife, Arlene, and Bryan Silvey, all of Sedalia; 15 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by a son, David Silvey.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home. A private family burial service conducted by Rev. Tony Chapman will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery on Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Randy Silvey, Chris Silvey, Andrew Silvey, Randy Kidwell, Geoff Kidwell, Marvin Harrelson Jr., Jimmie Vansell Jr., and Jimmie Vansell III.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Bothwell Home Health/Hospice.
