married to Charles W. Smethers, who died June 23, 1992. On Jan. 7, 1995, in Sedalia, she was married Charles J. Hofheins, who died April 30, 2000.

Mrs. Smethers-Hofheins was a 40 year member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was a 1936 graduate of Smithton High School where she received a letter in basketball. After graduation she attended Sedalia Business College. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. She lived in Sedalia most of her life.

Survivors include a son, Mike Smethers, and his wife, Sherry, of Sedalia; four daughters, Andra Coulson, and her husband, Larry, of Lee's Summit, Lynda Alcorn, and her husband, Clayton, of Sedalia, Marilyn Rimmer, and her husband, David, of Marshall, and Nancy McCroskey, of Lee's Summit; twelve grandchildren, Dee Fisher, Terri Stettnisch, Brett Coulson, Danny Alcorn, Denise Comfort, Richell Rimmer, Jeff Rimmer, Curt Edwards, Casi Wilborn, Wade McCroskey, Amy Hay and Ashley Turner; seventeen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four sisters, Hazel R. Chambers, Della Richardson, Ida Schroeder and Agnes Mitchell; a brother, Bob Mitchell; and a grandson, Chris Temple.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Drew Hill officiating. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens. Pallbearers will be Danny Alcorn, Brett Coulson, Curt Edwards, Wade McCroskey, Michael Stettnisch and Coty Comfort. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel. Friends may also send condolences at www.heckart-gillespie.com.
