Charles Richard “Dick” Smith, 68, of Sedalia, died Sunday morning, January 23, 2005, at his home.
He was born March 14, 1936, in Sedalia, son of Charles W. and Mary A. Nichols
Smith. On August 12, 1978, in St. Louis, he married Marilyn Kay Ashen Robinson, who survives of the home.
Mr. Smith was the owner of Plainsman Gun Shop for over twenty years. He was
an avid motorcyclist from 1956 to 2004. He collected guns and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of West Central Missouri Motorcycle Club.
Mr. Smith was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving as a petty officer, second class. He was a 1954 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Smith, of the home; two sons, Richard V. Smith, of Lebanon, and David R. Smith, of Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Sherrill R.
Neilsen, of Boston, Mass., and Marcia L. Schneider, of St. Louis; two step sons, Les Robinson, Jr., of Sedalia, and Larry Robinson, of Boise, Id.; ten grandchildren and a great grandson.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Frederick Zahn officiating.
Pallbearers will be Larry Epperson, Jim Smith, David Robinson, Ronald Stephan, Gary Boulding and Wayne Baslee.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2005, at Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Wesley United Methodist Church.
