Ila Belle Weir Smith, 85, of Sedalia, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born October 16, 1926, in Sedalia, daughter of Herbert B. Weir and Alma Kurtz Weir Paul.
She attended Washington Grade School and Smith-Cotton High School, graduating in 1944. She attended Central Missouri Business College for one year and worked as a secretary at Beatrice Foods and Pittsburgh Corning. She then went to work at the courthouse in 1954 as a probate clerk under A.M. Harlan. In 1973, she transferred to work for Bill Lyles as chief deputy circuit clerk until retirement in July 1, 1991.
On June 6, 1954, she married Harold B. "Jerry" Rymer, who died February 1971. On December 7, 1973, she married E.B. Smith, who died September 5, 2007.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bothwell Hospital Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women's Club, Sorosis and Moose Lodge 1494. She enjoyed golf, reading, traveling and attending Lions Club functions with her husband, E.B. She loved animals, especially cats. She enjoyed a mobile home and boating at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Survivors include a brother, Lee Weir; two nieces and two nephews; and her companion, John Plumb.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Church building fund or the Sedalia Animal Shelter.
