Robert Sherman Wells, 87, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born January 19, 1918, in Sedalia, son of Henry J. and Anna Belle Shipler Wells. On September 3, 1944, he was married to Margaret Lucille Bell, who died March 28, 2001.

Mr. Wells was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church, where he was a trustee for many
years. He painted and wallpapered homes for 60 years. He served on the Sedalia City Council for nine years.

He was a business agent for Painters Local for many years. He was a member of American
Legion Post 642, Sedalia Lodge 236, and a life-member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving for eight years. He was a
1935 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Cleo McCune and Norma Gilpin, both of Sedalia; a
brother-in-law, Charles Bell, of Sedalia; and nieces and nephews, Markie Hart, Belinda Seamon, Andi Cusick, John Urton, Charles McCune, Dan Bell, Mary Ann Davis, Charles Bell II, Jeanna Cissell, Ellen Donnell and Jack Straton.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Jennie Bennett, Opal Deering, Beulah McBride
and Mary Pomiseno; and five brothers, John Wells, Ricey Wells, Bud Wells, Bill Wells and
Norman Wells.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with
the Rev. Wayne Isgriggs officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hart, John Urton, Bud Cusick, Dan Bell, Ed Seamon and Charles
McCune. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Young, Ryan Young, Erik Hart, Tony Freitas, Earl Paxton, Charles Curry, Dale Ray and Larry Rennison.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Post 2591.

Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive
friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s
Association.
